This grant funding to the Commonwealth’s municipalities and Regional Planning Agencies supports their efforts to plan, regulate (zone), and act to conserve and develop land consistent with the Massachusetts’ Sustainable Development Principles.
These Planning Assistance Grants are part of an effort to encourage municipalities to implement land use regulations that are consistent with the Healey/Driscoll Administration’s land conservation and development objectives including reduction of land, energy, and natural resource consumption and provision of sufficient and diverse housing. They also support efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change and build a more resilient Commonwealth, including priority projects identified through the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program. Funds are intended to help communities undertake the public process and retain appropriate technical expertise.
