Financial assistance to Massachusetts tribal governments to acquire land (in fee) or a Conservation Restriction (“CR”) to support restoration of tribal relationships to their ancestral land and to qualified non-profits and other eligible Applicants collaborating with a Massachusetts tribal government to acquire a Conservation Restriction over land being acquired in fee by the tribal government or to facilitate the conveyance of land to a Massachusetts tribal government subject to a perpetual charitable trust obligation to maintain the land in a natural, scenic, or open condition for conservation purposes.
Acquired lands must be retained predominantly in their natural, scenic or open condition or in agricultural, farming or forest use in perpetuity. Restoration in this context is intended to recognize the relationship between tribes and the land and to facilitate the renewal and revitalization of cultural lifeways.
